John Richards is the owner of Utah Basement Finisher. He has a degree in Construction Management and spent 14 years working as a construction superintendent before starting the company. Over the years, he saw firsthand what makes a construction project go well and what can make it frustrating for homeowners.

When John started Utah Basement Finisher, he wanted to keep things simple: do good work, communicate with homeowners, stay organized, and be upfront about what things cost. That approach is still a big part of how we run the company today. John now works alongside a team of more than 50 people who help take each basement from the initial plans through construction and the final walkthrough.

Austin Walker has spent most of his life in Utah and is happy to call it home. He and his wife are raising two energetic boys who keep them plenty busy. His interest in construction started early, watching his dad build and fix things around the house and learning how things went together.

Austin has worked in construction for more than 15 years, gaining hands-on experience with nearly every part of residential construction along the way. For the past 10 years, much of his work has been focused on basement finishing and remodeling.

As a construction manager, Austin works closely with homeowners and our crews to keep projects moving and make sure the details are taken care of. He enjoys seeing an unfinished basement come together piece by piece and helping homeowners end up with a space that works well for their family.

John Tapp has worked in construction for more than 45 years, with much of that time spent perfecting the drywall trade. With that many years in the business, there isn’t much he hasn’t seen. He knows how to get the details right, work through problems when they come up, and leave behind a quality finished product.

John is also just easy to work with. He’s friendly, dependable, and always willing to answer a question or explain what he’s doing. Over the years, he has worked on all kinds of residential and commercial projects in Utah and beyond, bringing that experience to every basement he works on.

When he’s not working, John enjoys riding dirt bikes and spending time with his family at Bear Lake. He has three grandchildren and enjoys getting as much time with them as he can.

Chris Johnson is a master electrician with more than 24 years of experience working in residential construction. He has wired a lot of homes and basements over the years, so he knows what to look for and how to plan the electrical work around the way a family will actually use the space.

On our basement projects, Chris takes care of everything from outlets and lighting to dedicated circuits and other electrical needs. He makes sure the work is done safely, meets current code, and is ready for inspection. He’s also good about thinking ahead, whether that means finding the right spot for an outlet behind a TV or making sure there’s enough power where it will be needed.

We waited until the last minute to start our basement finish. We need more bedrooms due to another baby being on the way. We had our bid within 3 days and started the basement about 2 weeks later. Austin was great. He helped us figure out a couple of details in the framing that really worked out well. The basement was always clean. What a great team. Utah Basement Finishers completed the basement 2 weeks ahead of schedule which was very helpful.
